SQAd Participates in the NYC AIDS Walk

5/18/2026

On Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Shubert Queer Alliance ERG (SQAd) joined over 10,000 participants on a 6-mile walk through Central Park at the 41st annual AIDS Walk New York. This event is one of the largest HIV/AIDS fundraisers in the world and helps support GMHC and the lifesaving services they provide to New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS. SQAd raised nearly $3,000 for this great cause and the event raised a total of $1.7 million.

Donning some very fashionable SQAd t-shirts, this year marked our first participation in AIDS Walk NY with a small, but mighty team! We look forward to returning next year with an even bigger representation from SQAd. If you’re interested in joining us as next year’s AIDS Walk NY or other SQAd events, please reach out to [email protected].

Take Your Child to Work Day

5/14/2026

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is an annual event in the United States where parents are encouraged to take their children to work and teach them about what they do. It was established in 1993 by the Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Foundation. Today The Shubert Organization hosted our first Take Our Children to Work Day.

The day began with a warm welcome from our VP of HR, Missy Flower, followed by a special tour of the Broadhurst Theatre. There, the children had the exciting opportunity to see behind the scenes of Cats: The Jellicle Ball.

We also had participation from several departments, including Events, Facilities, Box Office Audit, and Client Payment Services. Each group offered a unique perspective, giving the children a firsthand look at what their parents do each day at The Shubert Organization.

Broadway 101: Enhancing the Audience Experience

5/13/2026

Who else remembers their first Broadway show? Mine was Once on This Island at the Booth Theatre when I was in sixth grade. My second was Rent at the Nederlander Theatre, a high school graduation gift.

Even before I joined The Shubert Organization, I had a sense of the do’s and don’ts of Broadway. Not everyone who visits New York—or our theatres —has that same experience.

That’s where our Broadway Inbound team comes in. Allison French, Senior Director; Jered Fournier, Director of Sales; and Fatima Figarola, Director of Operations, have created a new Broadway 101 series designed to help first-time theatregoers feel more comfortable and confident when attending a show. Pop Quiz: Why is May 5th so important?
A. Revenge of the Fifth (the Sith get it?)
B. Henry Cavill’s birthday
C. TONY NOMINATION DAY!!

I think we all know the correct answer here. Sorry, Superman and Star Wars fans.

The Tony Award nominations were announced, and Shubert productions earned an incredible FORTY-SIX nominations across all categories — including the coveted “Big Six.”
What are the Big Six, you ask?
  • Best Musical
  • Best Play
  • Best Revival of a Musical
  • Best Revival of a Play
  • Best Leading Actor in a Musical/Play
  • Best Leading Actress in a Musical/Play
This year’s nominations are a true testament to the extraordinary talent, creativity, and passion that bring Broadway to life every night. From groundbreaking new productions to celebrated revivals, Shubert shows continue to lead the way on theatre’s biggest stage.
Needless to say, we’ll be tuning in to the Tony Awards with plenty of excitement — and maybe just a little bit of nervous pacing. Congratulations to all the nominees, casts, crews, creative teams, and everyone working behind the scenes to make Broadway magic happen.

Now the countdown to Tony night officially begins!

Final Curtain Call

Woodie King Jr. was an American film and theatre actor, producer and director. Renowned for his pioneering career, he dedicated himself to increasing the representation of African American voices in the performing arts. King is credited with producing and directing more than 400 performances across the United States. He has been hailed by theatre arts journalists as "the Renaissance Man of Black Theatre".

King is best known as the founding director of the New Federal Theatre in New York City, with a mission to amplify the voices of Black artists, women, other underrepresented identities. Numerous African-American artists who are highly prominent in the entertainment industry today performed at the New Federal Theatre in the early years of their careers, including Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Lawrence Fishburne, Debbie Allen, Phylicia Rashad, Loretta Devine, Jackie Harry, Reginald Vel Johnson, Al Freemon Jr. and more.

He was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2012, received a Tony Honor for Excellence in Theater in 2020, and was named a legend of off-Broadway. He retired from his role as the producing director at the New Federal Theatre in 2021, but he remained on the board.

Mr. King had a significant relationship with the Shubert Organization by producing influential Broadway productions such as For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf and Checkmates. The relationship was celebrated after his passing on January 29th, 2026, with a tribute at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on April 27th, 2026.

Until We Meet Again

On Monday, April 27, 2026, The Shubert Organization held a retirement party at Sardi’s Restaurant for COO, Elliot Greene. It was a bittersweet, nostalgic evening attended by family, friends and colleagues.  A warm sendoff to someone who left an indelible mark on our company.
