Thanks to VP of HR Missy Flower, who facilitated an engaging panel featuring President Jeff Daniel and VP of Creative Projects Jennifer Costello, students were able to gain insight into what it truly takes to bring a show to Broadway. SPOILER ALERT: it takes a lot.
The learning didn’t stop there. Students also explored what happens once a show opens—specifically, how audiences are brought in and engaged. Shubert’s own Chanelle Cotton, Marketing Communications Manager, and Kyle Wright, VP of Marketing and Business Development, were joined by Rian Durham from Situation to discuss all things marketing. Who knew just how much of an impact social media can have on a show? The pièce de résistance was not one, but two theatre tours. Theater Manager Kenney Nunez led a visit through the flagship Shubert Theatre, regaling students with stories of celebrity sightings, memorable patron moments, and his own journey to working at Shubert. Accompanied by VP of Theatre Operations Mark Schweppe, the students then walked through Shubert Alley, pausing to take photos in front of the show billboards on their way to the Schoenfeld Theatre. There, they had the opportunity to see the set of Buena Vista Social Club. This is the fourth year that Shubert has participated in Career Discovery Day, and I think I can speak for Shubert when I say this won’t be the last. Comments are closed.
