There are certain names that are synonymous with Broadway, and one such name is Sardi’s. In its almost century long history, Sardi’s has become home to many Broadway actors, producers, insiders and those who want to be close to the action. It’s famous for its many caricatures, of which there are estimated to be between 1200 and 1800. Another legendary Broadway name is Shubert. Now those two names will be officially linked as The Shubert Organization has purchased Sardi’s restaurant. Beginning June 24th, Sardi’s will close temporarily to undergo some exciting renovations. It is estimated to reopen in October. Bob Wankel said, “The restaurant has always been important to us,”. “I consider it as much a part of the theater district as our theaters, and we want to make sure it stays in business. Obviously, we’re going to have a new restaurateur, so the menu might change a little bit.” New look, maybe a few new dishes—but the same legendary Sardi’s. We’ll be counting down to October.
