Brian Berry started his career with The Shubert Organization as a Telecharge phone agent in November 1991. While working there he was promoted to a mailroom supervisor. Then in July of 1996, Brian was chosen to work at the warehouse, a part of the Facilities department, where he has served as the warehouse supervisor for the past thirty years. What’s your single favorite memory or proudest moment at the company?
My proudest moment is and always has been the fact that I, along with many other people, help the bright lights of Broadway shine every night. What’s one thing you’ll miss most about working here? What I will miss most are the wonderful people that I have been lucky enough to have worked with throughout the years. Most notably, the Roving Crew, they are some of the hardest working and most dedicated people that I have ever had the privilege to ever work with. I will miss them. What were your biggest accomplishments or successes? I moved here in 1991 to become a working actor on Broadway. The very first place I went to find a “day job” was at Telecharge and then moving on to the Facilities department to work at the warehouse. Now, I didn’t end up on stage but thanks to Shubert, I did fulfill my dream of having a career working on Broadway. I will always be grateful for that. How has your role—or the industry—changed since you first began? The company 30 years ago felt like a mom-and-pop shop and even though it has grown exponentially over the years, it still has that kind of feeling. One thing that hasn’t changed is how Shubert has always viewed and treated everyone like a family and whenever anyone one of us ever needed help, they had our backs. What are you looking forward to in retirement? Well to start, I won’t miss getting up at 4:15am every morning, that’s for sure. I am looking forward to spending more time visiting my family in West Virginia and traveling as much as possible. This summer I am going to begin by exploring my own backyard, beautiful New Jersey. How would you like to be remembered here? I hope to be remembered as someone who was efficient, effective and dedicated to my daily responsibilities. And I hope that whenever I am thought of or spoken about by any of my fellow colleagues, they smile. Brian, I am sure that when the staff in the warehouse and Shubert at large, think of you, they will do so with a smile on their faces and appreciation for the dedicated work you did every single day.
