Guess who had a Broadway style revival this year…. BROADWAY BETS! Broadway Bets, created in 2015 as Broadway’s official poker tournament, gives theatre industry insiders and loyal Broadway Cares supporters a chance to play in a friendly Texas Hold ’em poker tournament while raising money for those in need. Click here to read more about the fun-filled event. Here is a special thank you from Tom Viola, Executive Director of BC/EFA, and Danny Whitman, Director of Development: To our Broadway Bets sponsors:
On behalf of everyone at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, thank you for helping revive and renew the cherished spring tradition within our beloved industry of Broadway Bets. Your wholehearted participation in Bets return after a four-year hiatus helped raise a record $332,465, and will provide meals and medication, health care and hope throughout our theater community and across the country. Because of your support and the support of others throughout the community, already this year Broadway Cares’ National Grants Program has awarded $3,957,500 to food pantries, meal delivery programs and congregate meal initiatives, as well as many of the largest health clinics and leading advocacy and public policy efforts throughout the country. In June, another round of grants will be shared with organizations across the country providing counseling, emergency assistance, harm reduction, quality-of-life services and more. Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS has awarded the Entertainment Community Fund $7.1 million so far this year. Your good work supports the Fund’s Friedman Health Center for the Performing Arts, offering health care to our friends and colleagues in the community regardless of whether they currently have health insurance or not. Your support also reaches the Phyllis Newman Women’s Health Initiative, Artists Health Insurance Resource Center, the HIV/AIDS Initiative, Addiction and Recovery Services, The Dancers’ Resource, The Stage Managers’ Project and a host of other vital services for all in our community. Four years passed since we last shared the unique, spirited, communal energy of Broadway Bets. After seeing friends and colleagues all together, sharing this special night and doing a tremendous amount of good, it is no wonder how our industry continues to band together and remain strong through any challenge. What you have made possible will have a real and meaningful impact on your neighbors and friends in the theater community, as well as people from rural towns to urban city centers coast to coast. Thank you for proving again that what we do together makes a difference. Sincerely, Tom Viola, Executive Director Danny Whitman, Director of Development and all at Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Comments are closed.
