Theatre Operations and Human Resources held an interactive “Inside the Box Office” information event on Saturday, October 22 in the JJ Shubert Penthouse. It was a huge success with a diverse group of 19 individuals in attendance to learn about careers in Broadway box offices.
After some light refreshments, attendees learned about Shubert’s history and its DEI commitments and goals. The Guest Star was one of our Assistant Treasurers, Julie Lui of the Music Box Theatre. Julie gave a wonderful presentation on her career path and the day-to- day responsibilities of being a Ticket Seller. Participants also got a chance to meet face-to- face with Julie, staff from Theatre Ops and HR in a round of mini interviews! From this event, several attendees will be called for official interviews in consideration of becoming substitute or regular Ticket Sellers in the near future. Because of the tremendous interest in this Box Office event, there has been talk of doing one for folks interested in careers as Stagehands. Many thanks to the Executive staff for their support of the event, and special thanks to Andrew White in Shubert Events for helping make the event run so smoothly! Take a look at some photos of the day here. ![]() Two years ago, the world was in turmoil with COVID, the murder of George Floyd, and Black Lives Matters protest. Here at Shubert, we wanted to better understand how our employees view the organization, identify areas in need of improvement, and improve transparency as we tried to better support our staff during that trying time. Back then we engaged the services of Julie Williams, of Kirtan Solutions, to help facilitate a survey and conversation. You've received an email with a link to the Shubert Culture Survey. Please complete the anonymous survey. It should take you approximately ten minutes and will help us to craft a culture at the Shubert Organization that we can be proud of. ![]() Happy 1st Anniversary Shubert Chronicle subscribers. It's been a year since we went to publication, and in that time, we've covered a variety of topics, including DC's Black Broadway, Women of Broadway and helpful hints on respecting people's pronouns. I've love to hear from you, and what you want to see in our upcoming issues of The Shubert Chronicles. Feel free to email, call or send me a message on Teams on topics you'd like to read about. Here's to many more years of The Shubert Chronicles.
![]() Congratulations are in order for Shubert Theater employee Emilio Benoit. Mr. Benoit was recently named Theater Cleaner of the Year by 32BJ. Emilio has been with The Majestic since 1984, meaning he's been at the Majestic longer than The Phantom of the Opera. That's quite the feat. But for some of us it can also be a time of increased stress, anxiety, and depression, both in our personal and professional lives. That’s why it’s so important to make use of all the resources available to help our mental health. There are many outside resources available, including those of the Entertainment Community Fund (Formerly Actor’s Fund) but one resource within the company is the Employee Resource Group H.O.M.E (Honest Open Meaningful Engagement.) H.O.M.E. is not a substitution for therapy. This peer-to-peer group aims to reduce the stigma around mental health issues, host wellness and educational events, and provide a safe space for employees to discuss any hardships they are going through in a non- professional setting. H.O.M.E currently meets twice a month, both in person and on Zoom. They alternate Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 1 PM, and all Shubert employees who are interested are encouraged to take advantage of this resource. In Shubert’s ongoing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts, mental health is something that should not be overlooked. For more information, reach out to the co-chairs Chanelle Cotton and Trevor Moppin at [email protected]. Sincerely, Charlie Flateman H.O.M.E. Executive Sponsor |
