![]() Shubert is pleased to announce it has selected 6 students for its first Shubert Organization Internship Program. The Summer 2022 interns are:
Part of Shubert’s overall commitment to help achieve greater diversity, equity and inclusion in the Broadway industry is to develop education programs and pathway training for Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and historically marginalized students who are looking for careers in non-performance areas of theatre. With a focus on the industry from the theatre owner’s perspective, the Shubert program is open to graduating high school students and first year college students. It provides a general knowledge base of theatre administration and operations and offers hands-on project involvement as we prepare for the busy 2022-2023 theatre season. Each of these paid internships will focus on a specific project(s) in their departments over a six-week period; with 20hrs per week of work, weekly MTA metrocards, development opportunities, tours of Shubert’s theatres, and access to Broadway shows and events. The Summer 2022 program received 86 applications from 24 different high schools in the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area, and from 25 different colleges and universities across the US. Shubert’s 10-member Education and Training subcommittee evaluated all applicants, and from the 15 candidates selected for an interview, six talented students were chosen. The Education and Training subcommittee would like to thank our department partners in advance for serving as intern advisors and managers: Bob Hoffman and Allison French (Broadway Inbound); Kenny Nuñez (Shubert Theatre Manager); Michael Coco (Theatre Operations); Rick Mone (Engineering Operations); and Christopher Rios (Off-Broadway Venue Management). We hope you get to meet this first cohort of interns soon. When you see them in the offices, the hallways, or out in the field, please make them feel welcomed! Comments are closed.
